# Altitude MCP tools

> Available tools grouped by account, Workspace, Transactions, and documents.

This page lists the tools your assistant can use after you [connect Altitude](/mcp/setup), grouped by what they help you do. Each table shows the tool’s name, purpose, required access, and type.

**Read** tools retrieve information or files. **Action** tools create something: currently, the only action is preparing a document export. No tool can create, Approve, or Submit Payments, change Workspace settings, or move funds.

Your existing Altitude Permissions apply. You can ask in plain language; your assistant supplies the tool inputs.

<Info>
Missing a tool? Refresh the tool list in your client, if it offers that
option, then start a new chat. If the tool still does not appear, reconnect
Altitude and check again. See [missing
  tools](/mcp/troubleshooting#some-tools-are-missing).

## Account and Workspaces

Start here to check your connected account and find the Workspaces you can access.

| Tool | What it returns | Access required | Type |
| - | - | - | - |
| `whoami` | Your connected account’s email, when available. | Signed-in account. | Read |
| `list_workspaces` | Active Workspace memberships, including card-only access. | Signed-in account. | Read |

If a Workspace is missing, check that you connected the right account and still belong to it.

## Accounts and balances

| Tool | What it returns | Access required | Type |
| - | - | - | - |
| `list_accounts` | Accounts and balances in one Workspace, filtered by Account, Account type, or currency. | Workspace read access. | Read |

Cards Account balances include spendable funds, amounts on hold, processing deposits, and the total. Other Account totals can include pending funds or asset valuations and may differ from what you can spend. An unavailable balance is unknown, not zero.

This tool is unavailable to Members with card-only access to the selected Workspace.

## Transactions

| Tool | What it returns | Access required | Type |
| - | - | - | - |
| `search_transactions` | Activity filtered by Account, date, type, or direction, with available amounts, counterparties, and statuses. | Workspace read access or access to your own cards. | Read |

Workspace read access allows searching Workspace activity. Card-only Members can search purchases and refunds on their own cards.

Results arrive newest first, in batches. For totals or summaries, ask your assistant to include all matching results and disclose missing information. Statuses, refunds, and internal Transfers can affect totals; keep currencies separate.

With access to your own cards, results cover only your purchases, refunds, and their statuses, including activity for deleted cards. They exclude other Members’ cards, card funding, withdrawals, cashback, and non-card activity. They do not represent the whole Workspace’s spending.

## Documents

| Tool | What it does | Access required | Type |
| - | - | - | - |
| `list_export_options` | Finds available documents, formats, dates, and Accounts or cards you can include. | Access to the requested document. | Read |
| `generate_exports` | Prepares one document as PDF or CSV. | Access to the requested document. | Action |
| `get_export_status` | Checks whether your document is waiting, processing, ready, or failed. | The account that requested it, with current document access. | Read |
| `download_export` | Retrieves your completed PDF or CSV. | The account that requested it, with current document access. | Read |

### Request a document

Start with `list_export_options` to check availability, then ask your assistant to prepare the document with `generate_exports`.

| Document | Format | Access required |
| - | - | - |
| Account confirmation letter | PDF | Workspace read access, approved business verification, and linked business details. |
| Account details | PDF | Workspace read access. |
| Balance summary | PDF | Workspace read access. Current balances only. |
| Individual card statement | PDF | Workspace read access or access to that card. |
| Cards Account statement | PDF | Workspace read access. |
| Account services summary | PDF | Workspace read access. |
| Transaction statement | PDF or CSV | Workspace read access or access to your own cards. |
| Payment confirmation | PDF | Workspace read access; confirmation must be available for the selected Payment. |

Specify the Workspace, document, and any Accounts, cards, or receiving method you want to include. For statements, also specify the date range or billing month and preferred format. With access to your own cards, statements cover only your own card activity.

Transaction statements cover up to 365 days. Dates use UTC and include both the start and end date. Statements become available six hours after the final day or billing month ends. Availability can also depend on completed Workspace setup.

### Check progress and download

Preparing a document sends no email. Each generation request creates a separate export. Use `get_export_status` to check the existing export and allow the suggested wait between checks. If it fails, ask for the reason before deciding whether to retry.

Once ready, use `download_export` to retrieve the file. Your current membership and document Permissions still apply. Files can be up to 10 MiB; for larger statements, choose fewer Accounts or a shorter period.

File presentation depends on your client. If it cannot show or save the returned file, download the document through Altitude.

## Example prompts

Replace \[Workspace name] with your Workspace’s name.

| Tool | Try asking |

| `list_workspaces` | “List the Altitude Workspaces I can access.” |
| `list_accounts` | “Show the Accounts and balances in \[Workspace name].” |
| `search_transactions` | “Show my card purchases and refunds in \[Workspace name] last month.” |
| `list_export_options` | “Which documents can I export from \[Workspace name], and which dates are available?” |
| `generate_exports` | “Prepare last month’s transaction statement for \[Workspace name] as CSV.” |
| `get_export_status` | “Is the statement you just requested ready?” |
| `download_export` | “Download the completed statement as a file.” |
